I currently working as a robotics mentor for a local Middle School. The class has been focusing on VEX robotics competitions. With the competitions being over for most, I am looking to introduce them to the InMoov robot. The class has experience with mechanical builds, motors and servos, 3D printing, Arduino and CAD, which all fit in with the InMoov paradigm. We are starting slow – just the finger test kit the next two weeks. Depending on how it goes, we will be moving on to either the hand or the Head. I see the whole robot to be a multi-year process. The one part that is lacking are true CAD files. I am currently using Instep to convert the files from stl to step files then Autodesk Inventor files to create usable mating surfaces so that the kids can model the the subassemblies and movement on their computers. The goal on my part is to create the CAD files with holes and flats that can be mated while preserving the organics features of the original robot. I am also modifying hole sizes and spacing to fit the resolution of our 3D printers and hardware. We use Lulzbot Taz 5 mini and Taz 4 for printing. Thanks for making your work available. It’ll impact a lot of lives!
If you want CAD files of the forarm and the hand, they are available as derivatives, though they are not up to date. http://inmoov.fr/inmoov-parts-and-derivatives/ A multi year process, so I can expect to see another InMoov robot in a middle school sometime in the future. Be aware that it is evolving fast though, specially if you dig into derivatives. Let us follow your progress!!
