not sure how clear this picture is but i am having problems getting a nice finish on the last layers of my abs prints.
theres some pits, dont know if the hot end needs the temp turned up from 240 or if its clogged a little .
did you try to increase the number of top layers to print?
yeah the default was 1mm and i changed it to 2mm the same as my walls
I do not know of available settings in mm. I assume it is the number of shells and is depending on the selected layer height. For the outer shell you should probably use 3 shells, for top layers I would select 3-6 layers depending on the filling grade you selected. A low filling grade will result in wider gaps which will give you a less flat…En afficher davantage

so it seems that not enough filament is being extruded. i add a little pressure to the extruder tensioner it does better prints, but i cant sit there for hours holding it at the right spot and the spring doesnt seem to be doing much
This is a wheel base i made for my inmoov robot. The basic idea is from Gaels wheel base. You must have some welding skills to complete this base construction. The servos i use is turnigy 1270HV 40kg. You can find stl files for 3d printed parts at: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1548858

So far in this project I have converted all the right hand stl files to CAD files (I use inventor). I have had to make many corrections and additions to make things fit right as well as fix weak areas in the prints using thin (0.8mm) strips. I printed the forearm as two pieces for top and bottom (4 pieces total) and glued together as per instructions. Since I print with ABS plastic , I typically use the acetone glue method, however for the top and bottom of the forearm the mating surfaces don’t have uniform contact so the joint was weak. as per above I posted above this is 2 pieces and needed to be glued together. Since I use ABS plastic for my prints. Splitting is a real problem for tall thin items which only get worse for really all items. Lower shrinkage plastic – like PLA may work better for a combined part. Hi there. I only just got your message as I’ve been hovering mainly around the myrobotlab shoutbox. I’ve just finished the head, torso, left arm, shoulder and lower stomach. This is InMoov implemented in ROS URDF. This is the first step before you can integrate him with other tools, like Gazebo simulation or MoveIt! inverse kinematics and pathing. There’s alot of work left to do, but it’s coming along nicely.

I do remember seeing that video, it was really impressive. One of the reasons that I’m moving over to ROS is for the inverse kinematics packages that are already there, like MoveIt.

Hi Don Thanks for the link to Chucks method of joining pieces with a Dremel or other rotary tool. Tried it out on this rainy weekend and got much better results than expected – and that was without any longtime experience. Once you can master that process it opens lots of possibilities to enhance the surface of combined parts.

Ehehe! Cool ! Long journey in perspective!! You might want to adjust the sucking back material setting in your slicer software to avoid the « hair » between the parts. It will help for further prints and quality.
I am using Repetier Host and Slic3r. Which settings should I be looking at? (not currently at laptop)

ok so i have no printed the jaw piston and hinge in both abs and pla on lulzbot taz 5 and the same problem the piston will not go into the hinge without doing a lot of filing down on both and i mean like half of the print. any suggestions?
Definitely a calibration issue with your printer. Your printer must be extruding a little bit more than necessary or the X and Y axis aren’t adjusted which might deform slightly your shapes. Try printing a calibration cube and circle to make sure you have it correct otherwise you will spend hours filling all the parts.
I agree with Gael. On some of the other smaller pistons I made before I realized it was a calibration issue I took very fine grit sandpaper and wrapped it around the piston, gripped firmly and twisted to remove of the excess til it worked in the receiver perfectly. Then I use a heat gun to apply a little heat and repeat the process with cheap…En afficher davantage
