I had several ideas when I started to print the head. The large servo was more expensive than a small, so I tried to replace it with a standard size sero. I also wanted to mount a better camera in the head than a USB camera. My modified head contains a Raspberry PI 2 with a Raspberry Pi Camera module mounted in one of the eyes. It also contains…En afficher davantage
wooouu, setting the brain in the skull. What sort of camera did you set in? I tested my full InMoov with the Raspi2 and was a bit disapointed with latency. The Odroid U3 was also having latency… Let us know your Rasp2 acts when you will be using speech recognition along with OpenCV tracking, so we can share comparison.
I use a Raspberry PI Camera module connected directly to the Raspberry CSI port. I has really good quality for still pictures and video stream is OK. I tried to use it with MRL and the OpenCV service, but I got some error messages. I will sort it out with the developers of MRL. Thay are all very nice, skilled and helpful people.
Others have tested the Raspi Camera module into MRL with success. Your errors might be related to which version of MRL you are using. When I tested the camera with the Raspi2, I was using version 1.1.107 and it was working fine, though with latency.

This is a part of the Bicep. I use PLA, and it's not as soft as ABS. So when I tried to mount them together, it was impossible, because it wouldn't flex. But PLA gets soft at relativley low temperatures, so I used a heatgun at a low setting to heat the connections. After heating the plastics for a short while, it was easy to mount them together.…En afficher davantage
Great idea, I’m sure this will a lot of builders using PLA!
I should add this suggestion in the tutorial for PLA users if it is okay with you.
Yes, please. The main reason for me to share my experences is to help other builders.

Hand and forarm printed in black PLA. I use recessed M3 screws to hold it together. I drill a 3mm hole in the part to be mounted. In the part that it should be mounted to, I first drill a 2.3 mm hole and then I use a 3mm taps to make a thread. It's not easy to make the thread straigth by hand, so I mount it in a drill. The 8mm screws are made from…En afficher davantage
Tabing the holes really helps, it is what I also do. Unfortunately not everyone has this kind of tools. Great work by the way!

My experiments with polymer artificial muscles: the movement of the InMoov robot finger.
One polymer artificial muscle can pick up 200g load with contraction 1 cm.
Cool that you are experimenting this also!! I’m glad to see some other tests. With the few tests I did with polymer muscles, I was a bit disapointed about the speed, and precision. Also as results due to the wire temperature, the polymer was getting less and less responsive and brownish. Do you get good results, when you have two muscles, one for…En afficher davantage
These muscles have no good control technology yet. It is difficult to organize the rapid heating and cooling. What characteristics of muscles were in your tests : resistance and the material of the wire, the voltage for muscle contraction, and what electronics did you use for that?

Its been at least a year, I did these tests. The polymere wire was 0,8mm. The electric wire resistance was Nickel Chrome 0,3mm. I would vary the temperature of the resistance using a 220v light shader directly connected to the resistance. (dangerous tests…) So I haven’t calculated what Amps was drawn by the resistance. Started to assemble the torso and also made a stand from an old office chair and chrome pole. This allows me to move and work on InMOOV much easier. Also included back of torso. I had a difficult time trying to figure out how to mount the servo holder but I think this is correct.

Took the seat off of an old office chair. This will act as a base for the torso to get mounted to. I added an adjustable metal pole to this stand that you can see in another picture.

Did you start playing with the Nervo board?
I have indeed….the soldering and wiring has begun 😉
To attach the Arduino in the back, there is some casing available on Thingiverse. Make sure you still can add the Nervo board. Also try to place them like I did, because if you want to be able to use the files I will publish for the back of InMoov.

Hi Gael, Yes I do plan on printing the whole robot. Up until now, I have been using our public library’s 3D printer and decided to purchase my own. Progress on my InMoov robot.
Very good progress! You didn’t want to use the latest PistonClaviV3 which are less fragile? The one you have will do the job, but they might weaken after sometime
Wooo almost there aren’t you!!
I had the PistonClavi already done a while ago. When they break I take the new ones.
I am almost there.

Very good job on the hands and head! You got a very good finish for the hands as well. Will you spray the head or keep it with the Primer spray? Super!
Hello Gael,
late i will spray on the head normal varnish for the end clear varnish – like my hands.
Part 2
Hand 95 % finsih >
hello do you use acetone?and what is the material grey in end fingers? thank you amby
Hello Amby,
no i printed in 100% PLA so Acetone not helps me. I use « superglue » or « one-second glue » to fix the parts. But for the Hands i don´t need it because the finger part give in one part:
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:753941
And the end of the Finger are Gaels Finger tips / tops in Silicon

I hope i could help you!!!

hello boris thank you for answer me i find your print so nice have you do a tutorial for explaine how you do i am very surprising your hand is like actetone how you do? thank you amby
like i said i printed in 100% PLA and then i polish the printed part. I will make a Tutorial how to print and polish PLA and how to use « superglue » and « primmer-spray ».
Boris
Very nice job on the surface finish of your PLA. A tutorial for other builders on the process to polish the PLA would certainly help. I’m guessing you do a primer spray with a paint finish, no?

Hey very clean work!! What did you spray on it? Polyester car filer? I see, you did close the holes around the mouth. Nice job and keep us posted!!
I use white prime for all material.
I can tell you what work it was:
1. I printed some parts together – like you know 2. i use « one-second glue » to put the parts together (that i will get one part) 3. i use gast ( german « gips ») – then i drag the head 4. i spray with primer. 5. again drag the head 6. from 3. to 5. i think 10 times.
So after 2…En afficher davantage
PS: I forgot one important info:
I printed all parts in PLA in 100% with a Ultimaker 2 in 0.1 layer thickness with 50 mm/s . So i one way it take a while, but on the other hand i have the possibilty to polish/drag/grind the part or cut small pieces away.

nice pieces! Do you let your printer run at night? To gain time it what I do, but my printer is so hacked that it is pretty reliable. I cross my fingers
Hi Gael, thanks for the complements. My Ultimaker is pretty reliable and almost never fails the print when I keep a close watch on the first layers. I don’t print at night because of the noise. I hear everything, when I am asleep.
