      I think before changing the pullies we should agree what the mechanical requirements are for the fingers.
      In my arms I use mg996R and they can turn about 110 deg to the left and to the right (total 220). So when Gael says he can move all fingers with the exception of the middle one with an unmodified HK15298 servo which allows only 45…En afficher davantage

        Thanks for your input about this.

        The good thing to use a 180 degrees pully, is that there is less change to break any mechanical parts.
        A other good thing is, there is a higher resolution to place/hold the finger at his position.

  • First test of the servos. The neck works fine. Jaws needs to be changed to increase the speed of movement. Eye servos tested but not connected to the eyes.

      I have found a pretty good solution last year. I didn’t post about it because I wanted to test it before. The hand was set up at an exhibit running the whole day for nearly two months, and the result was concluant.

        For the springs – I think it’s good to keep the strings under tension – great pictures and nice cabeling! But e.g. a bit of a fragile object might still be broken because the servo won’t stop?

        • The basic problem is that the you need to pull a longer distance in one direction that the other. For example the major finger needs to be pulled 27mm to close but only 17mm to open. So the servo pulleys needs to be redesigned to have two different lanes, with different diameters. I have started to experiment, but the pulleys I try now are to…En afficher davantage

          • @juerg, the servos won’t break parts, at least it never did on any of the hands I have assembled. In MyRobotLab you set the Min and Max for each servo, this avoids the servos to force further than necessary.
            The pulleys mounted on the HK15298, even though it rotates only 90 degrees, can actuate fully all fingers, only the Majeure finger is…En afficher davantage

            • Thanks for posting the spring design. I think springs has to be part of the solution, since turning the wrist will pull on both sides of the servos. A different design of the pulleys may decrease the length that the springs need to flex.

    Here are some more pictures of the new back for InMoov. It integrates a ThinkPad Tablet 8″ which can be replaced with other tablets fitting the same width size specs. A clip on, printed mechanism, makes it easy to insert or remove.

      I’m glad you got away with it!
      These (below)are settings I use for to print the fingers, but you might want to go with a 100% infill depending on your material and printer.

        • Awesome, nothing better than your own settings!
          0.4mm will do the job, but might carve in the plastic after a lot of usage.
          One of the InMoov hand I made was exposed in Paris Tokyo exhibit for nearly two months working everyday from 10 AM to 12PM, the 0,8mm braided line didn’t carve in the plastic, I was pretty surprised about that.

          • Ah yes, I was afraid that carving of the plastic would be a problem. I’ll use my 0.4mm for the simpler finger tester then, just to be able to test something. 🙂
            Quite impressive that the hand could do that much work without breaking. You’re clearly in the industrial quality segment here. 🙂

          I did make a Arduino script when I was testing the carbone foam sensors on the finger starter. I’m wondering if I still can find it in all my data. It could maybe help you or others, as I recall it was a bit of a different approach.

    • Clean prints in your how to! What resolution do you print with?
      Your requirement for drill bits is slightly smaller than mine, it varies pretty much according to your printers settings and filament supplier.

          Just to let you know, if you don’t already, you can create a new folder/directory for each version of MRL. This way you can keep a folder with a working version and set a beta version in another folder for to test new things.
          This avoids crunching a good working version.

      Currently it is a very basic sensor made of carbone foam. It is not very accurate.

        • Hi Stefan. Depending on your printer and the material you use, you may have to scale the parts. I suggest that you start printing either the Fingertester part of the Fingerstarter or the Servobed from the Hand. That way you can test how well the servos fit. If they don’t fit, the use the slicer to scale the object so that they fit. I print with…En afficher davantage

The servos have not arrived yet, and the final parts of the right hand and arm will be printed this weekend, so I’ll just have to hope that the parts I have printed so far will not be completely unusable… I’m using ABS by the way, since that was Gael’s recommendation.

    For the servo I will draw a smaller pulley so the servo can give more torque with less power.

      I like that Carbon PLA. I remember the parts you showed me in Eindhoven, the quality was very good!
      Pulley rotates 90 degrees because the HK15298B digital servo recommended for the hand rotates only 90 degrees.
      That being said, you can use any servo you like with Finger Starter and of course model your own pulleys. 🙂

        And yes, it’s nice material to use but it needs some attentions for the first layer.

  • Just finished the last finger pieces for the Finger Starter Kit.
    All are printed with CarbonFil with a 0.2mm layer hight.
    (I now, it’s better to use 0.1mm 🙂 )

      I give a filing to the finger parts where they move against each other because the printing in layers creates imperfect vertical surfaces.

        The CarbonFil is great stuff and feels strong.
        I’ve used this to make some prototype parts for my Camera Gimbal.
        And it didn’t break 🙂
        For now I’m still waiting for advice about which glue I can use for this CarbonFil.

      • I got the same trouble. Happily with abs it can be repaired quickly with acetone.
        Some times after I found this tip, just heat to smooth the holes. It looks like Mats Önnerby tips with airgun to mount pla parts but with a solder iron.

          I’m still using the standard clean glass plate from the UM2.
          After each print, I’m cleaning the plate directly when it’s still hot.

          For CarbonFil I’m using a temp from 255 C and the heated bed is set to 60 C.
          I’m still playing with some settings.
          Most important thing is that the plate needs to be levelled well and very…En afficher davantage

      In the video posted by Sebastien, the idea is great! Specially if you drilled the holes a bit too wide.
      But be sure that finger stays loose, in the video they are stiff, rigid, and that is not okay for the movement. The finger should move freely at each joint.

        I was more focused how to glue all fingerparts together like part-1 with part-2 etc….
        CarbonFil is PET based and PET is difficult to glue normally.
        I hope the 30% of carbon-mix will make it easier to glue this together.

    3d printing with ease
    Please understand – I definitely do not want to create product placement in my blog – just let me tell you my InMoov printing difficulties.
    I first thought ABS and badly failed, nothing sticked to my print bed. Then listening and reading many experts opinions I switched to PLA. I gladly agreed because nothing worked with ABS…En afficher davantage

      What is the « rescue » material you finally use from mtplus?
      I tried so many things and materials for the perfect printing bed before starting InMoov project. Blue tape, UhU glue on glass, Buildtak, Ninja Board, ABS slurry on acrylic, bakelite and so on. I use…En afficher davantage

      • I use a Velleman Vertex K8400 printer with an unheated glass bed with BuildTak. PLA sticks well to it. The BuildTak has to be replaced about once per month. I have never tested ABS.           never seen BuildTak before but the web page promises exactly what I got with my material. I haven’t touched my printbed for 3 month’s now with printing times in average probably 3 hours/day.

      • It looks to be kept secret what material it is. It is also rather expensive but after having encountered so many problems I gave it a try (beside other materials) – and at least for me and my PLA-HT it works like a charm.
        When I compare ABS prints with the PLA-HT the second is much more robust (like I can not brake the large lower arm parts…En afficher davantage

    • Buildtak didn’t work with ABS for me, I managed to nearly destroy the surface after the third print. ABS temperature is too high for the Buildtak and causes to scare the surface rapidly. I didn’t try with PLA. But I have seen very good results at various 3D print shows.

    Replacement Servo for omoplate

    After burning quite a few HS805BB I wanted to try another smaller servo which had interesting specs, the tgy-mg959 v2.
    I have added the redesigned holster which maintains the geometry to thingiverse (look vor InMoov omoplate).
    It should also work for rotate and shoulder and sure would look sharp on the robot.…En afficher davantage

        I bought it for the hobbyking statement 30kg/6v and 0.15s/6v for 60 deg. The servo I got is named v2, but you can also find other statements where only 15 kg are given.       Can you give more details about you have done and installed?
      Does a simple test with Arduino sketch, controlling just one servo works?
      Are you using the Nervo Board or did you build something yourself?

    • That would be extremely expensive for someone to do for you and time consuming, it would be cheaper for you to buy something like a Creality Ender 3 or similar. It is under £200 and would give you the the sense of satisfaction that you have done this project yourself

        • Ciao Maurizio scusami per il ritardo della risposta ma sono stato assente dalla community per tanto tempo ( il lavoro mi assorbe totalmente ), ho ripreso in mano il progetto in questi giorni ed eccomi di nuovo qui, spero nel frattempo tu abbia risolto con la stampante .
          Ti dico come ho fatto io diversi anni fa, ho comprato una stampante cinese ( Prusa 3d ) con scheda derivata da arduino mega 2560 e firmware Marlin, non soddisfatto della meccanica ( niente da dire al firmware ) è nato il desiderio di costruirmi una meccanica nuova in casa.
          Ho una piccola macchina laser 600×400 quindi mi sono disegnato una meccanica da tagliare in plexiglass da 5 mm di spessore ( va piu che bene ) ho preferito farla da 40×40 anzichè 20×20 come la cinese ed ho iniziato quindi a ordinare tutti i pezzi che la compongono, per farla breve in un paio di anni ne ho fatte una decina e vanno benissimo, a distanza di tempo e dopo diverse decine di kg di materiale usato la meccanica e perfetta come il primo giorno.
          Inoltre il software e Open Source e ho potuto personalizzarlo a mio piacimento aggiungendo anche un modulo wifi utilizzando un esp 8266 per gestirla direttamente da una pagina web ( anche questo software e Open Source si chiama esp3d.
          Se vuoi provare a cimentarti posso darti tutte le informazioni necessarie per costruirtela in casa girandoti l’esperienza che ho accumulato ormai da una ventina di anni con le macchine cnc, prima con pantografi 3/4/5 assi poi con le 3d.

    • The i3 Prusa are good printers, although it is not easy to print ABS on this type of machine because they are open case.
      But if you plan to print InMoov in PLA, it will be a great machine.
      The thickness of the filament depends of your printer’s extruder.

    Disponendo di svariate Stampanti 3D ho accelerato i tempi e a distanza di pochi giorni ho l’avambraccio completo di polso e mano sinistra, da oggi inizio a montare i servo ecc ecc.
    Spero presto di poter postare le foto del lavoro che sto svolgendo grazie alla maestria di Gael nel fornirci i file necessari alla realizzazione ma sopratutto grazie alla sua disponibilità.

    Having several 3D Printers I have accelerated the time and after a few days I have the forearm complete with wrist and left hand, from today I start to assemble the servos etc. etc.

  4. Gaël LANGEVIN… Um thats a Catch 22… I’m trying to « update my community profile picture » to an Inmoov pic like stated… Which it says you wont get approved without doing that… Yet it also wont let you change the photo without prior approval.

    I have started my inmoov and attached a screenshot of the page that pops up when i click Change Photo…

    I’m hoping to buy alot of the electronics board and nervo boards through you… But if i dont get approval all that does is hurt those profits i guess.

    My name is Brad Stein. I have been building robots for many years but never actually finished one completely because I kept coming up with a better idea. Now my better idea is to build a inmoov but he will be partially Inmoov and partially other robot parts.
    Thats why I am going to call him Franklin Stein.
    I Have the complete Head, Neck and torso printed so far. My printer was taking too long so I bought a second one.
    I plan on attaching him to a Mecanum Wheel base that I had already been working on. I think they will work well together.

    • Actually I have finished a few but we all know they are never really finished.
      I picked a good time to sit at home and print parts.

      I have 2 Afinabot A9 printers(they also come with a Laser engraving head) going 24/7.

      I sure learned a lot about 3d printing in the last couple months.Like when it is -30 outside and someone opens a door your part is going to warp.

      I have been using PLA but want to try some ABS. I think I’ll build an enclosure for one of the printers and use that one for ABS.
      Got the Head, neck,torso,stomach and shoulders printed so far. I have all the electronics just waiting for a box of Giant servos to show up sometime today.

    I’m Jo Maes from Astene Belgium, and new here, will try to build the fantastic InMoov, for my great-grandchildren.

    It will be a Raise 3D printer, since we want to work with abs filament, but we are not yet sure whether it will be the 2 pro or the E2, which can print mirror images at the same time, but a slightly smaller size. Advice someone with this choice?

    As I’m retired, I have all the time, but a little afraid of the technical side of the story, given my age.
    Are there still Dutch speaking people here, forum? or other technically savvy people who are willing to provide any assistance.

    Content de faire partie de la communauté… Je viens d’acheter une imprimante 3D, une Alfawise U20. Malheureusement il y a un petit soucis technique que je dois d’abord régler dessus avant de l’utiliser. Je n’arrive pas à faire chauffer le plateau et la buze, J’ai déjà changer la tête et la thermistance. Maintenant, je dois faire vérifier la carte mère cette semaine.

    Je suis impatient de commencer la construction de mon robot InMoov. Je n’ai jamais fait de tel projet, mais c’est un rêve de pouvoir le faire. J’espère que je pourrais avoir de bon échange avec des membres pour m’épauler.

  13. Hi. I’m just starting on this venture using an Ender 3 . The calibrator is a perfect fit after an afternoon of setting up my printer properly (measuring the filament diameter, calibrating the extruder and X & Y axes and making sure my bed was level using an ABL system , another (previous) afternoon’s work). All that has paid off though. I have printed the Finger Starter, assembled it and got it working. Now I have finished printing the forearm, hand and fingers and everything fits together like a glove. Happy days and happier to come I hope.

  14. Hello! I am looking into this amazing project. What plastic or plastics would people recommend to use to build InMoov? I could use PLA, ABS, PETG (although hard to glue) nylons, TPUs … I would prefer not having to rebuild because I chose the wrong plastic.

    My jaw’s servo motor and eye-x and eye-y servo motor is malfunctioning continuously. I changed servo motor 5/6 times. Every time it works for 5-10 minutes and it is not working. I am using sg90 servo, I have tried MG90 servo motor as well.
    So can you assist me in this problem? or can I want to add resistor in nervo boards of eye/mouth. (I am using 10V 20Amp Power supply)

  23. Hello, everyone! I started assembling a new InMoov Hand (https://inmoov.fr/inmoov-hand/). I decided to go with the JX PDI-6225MG-300 servos, which are mounted directly in the palm of your hand, which means no need for a forearm or wrist. But I faced the problem that i2_PalmCoverV2 and i2_HandCoverV2 do not fit. Due to the built-in servos in the palm, these covers cannot be used at all. Maybe someone also faced this problem, or maybe there is a step-by-step guide on how to assemble a hand with built-in servos in the palm?

  25. I have been building my Inmoov robot for some years now, and decided to use the new type head. Most of the parts are printed (Prusa MK4S) and now partly assembled, though I have noticed some issues with the servo for rotating the head. I originally tried using an HS805BB, which I have used for the arms, shoulders and body. But it does not align with the servogear. It is about 3 or 4mm out of alignment. Instead, I decided to use JX PDI 6221MG to see if that would fit better. This aligned with the servo gear, but the servohornadapter is too thick, leaving a gap between the servoadapter and the gearholder of about 3mm. I printed a new version which is narrower, and this works okay. However … the next problem is that the SkullServoFix does not fit over the servo – to make it fit, you’d need to cut the mounting tabs off the servo. Can anyone shed any light on this? Have I missed something?

I am using the version 2.0 for the hand (i2Righthand) and instead of the JX-6225MG 300 degree servo motor, i am gonna use the JX-6225MG 180 degree servo as it is cheaper. I wanted to know
    1. What kind of strain or changes will be put on the project, especially moving the fingers
    2. Do i have to do some kind of changes to the dimension of the Servo-bed before printing it out?

    3. I am extremely new to 3d printing and 3D design so i will appreciate a broken down answer. Also i wanted to know the perfect setting for printing the hand and the forearm part out (like the % of infill, wall count and other necessary measurements) or if you can give me a link to where it has been officially discussed, that will be lovely too.

    4. also i have this friend that has a 3d printer, I wanted to know if i’s okay to print with him or just go to a professional. Like i said, i am new to 3d printing and this is a complicated project, so i am just trying to delegate this printing task to someone, while learn about it from the sidelines as it is being done.
